Understanding Insulated Glass Units
Insulated glass units (IGUs) — commonly called sealed units or double-pane windows — are the glass component inside your window frame. They consist of two or three panes of glass separated by a spacer bar and sealed around the edges.
The sealed space between the panes creates an insulating barrier that reduces heat transfer, minimizes outside noise, and improves your home’s overall energy performance.
Over time, seals can break down due to age, sun exposure, or temperature fluctuations. When the seal fails, moisture enters the space between the panes — causing that familiar foggy, cloudy appearance that no amount of cleaning will fix.
